Our Story

Founded in 2022, Sacred Spaces was born out of the lived experience of two moms – Michel Williams and Jill Karber – who were passionately devoted to their faith and struggling to raise children who identify as LGBTQ within the Church.

It’s often said that when a child comes out of the closet, a parent goes in. For Michel and Jill, the lack of support as Christian parents amplified their sense of loneliness, shame, and spiritual isolation. At the same time, they witnessed the pain their children experienced – barriers to spiritual growth, rejection from peers and adults in their faith communities, and the trauma of silence or shame.

In that space of heartbreak and conviction, they saw the need for something different: a place where Christian parents could wrestle honestly with what it means to love their children like Jesus – without letting go of truth, and without compromising grace.

Their hearts also remain tender toward LGBTQ+ youth and adults who have left the Church – not because they’ve walked away from God, but because they were never given a safe place to stay.

Sacred Spaces was founded on the belief that when a person is allowed to exist authentically, without fear of judgment or rejection, the door opens to deeper understanding of God's unconditional love – and a path toward healing and spiritual flourishing.
